NHL Rumors: 5 Teams Who Are Not Done Making Moves Yet

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi reacts after scoring goal in 2025 game.

Even as the NHL offseason slows in August, several teams aren’t quite done tinkering.

According to Adam Proteau of The Hockey News, five franchises, the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs, may still have business to take care of before training camps open.

Flames, Oilers, and Wild Weigh Their Next Steps

In Calgary, defenseman Rasmus Andersson remains a major trade chip. While the Flames haven’t been aggressive this summer, dealing the 28-year-old could fast-track a retooling effort.

Edmonton, meanwhile, faces lingering questions in net. With just $225,000 in cap space, a goalie upgrade won’t be easy, but with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard’s shaky postseason numbers, a deadline deal may be inevitable.

Over in Minnesota, Marco Rossi’s future is uncertain despite his breakout season. Though a short-term extension is possible, a trade remains on the table as GM Bill Guerin decides how to shape his core.

Canadiens and Leafs Still Have Cap Flexibility

The Montreal Canadiens are expected to activate $4.57 million in cap space once Carey Price’s contract moves to LTIR, giving GM Kent Hughes room to upgrade the forward group before or during the season. Playoff expectations are real, and standing pat likely isn’t in the cards.

As for the Toronto Maple Leafs, they’re in limbo with Nick Robertson. Following offseason additions like Dakota Joshua and Matias Maccelli, Robertson’s role is in doubt, making him a trade candidate. Toronto may also extend a PTO offer to a veteran forward, similar to last year’s Max Pacioretty move.
