NHL Veteran Jimmy Vesey Heading to Europe

Hello Europe, goodbye NHL. At least for now.

Veteran free-agent forward Jimmy Vesey could not come to terms on a new contract this offseason, and has decided to sign on with Geneve-Servette HC of the National League in Switzerland.

It's a two-year contract for the NHL veteran, which runs through the 2026-27 season. Vesey first debuted in the league with the New York Rangers back in 2016. Vesey was a very highly touted NCAA undrafted prospect out of the college ranks, winning the Hobey Baker Award in 2016 out of Harvard University.

Vesey turned into quite the journeyman throughout his NHL career, playing three seasons with the Rangers, before being traded in 2019 to the Buffalo Sabres. After one season in Buffalo, Vesey then signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was then claimed off waivers in March of 2021 from the Leafs, finding a new home with the Vancouver Canucks.

After stops in Buffalo, Toronto, and Vancouver, Vesey would have a short stint with the New Jersey Devils, before winding up back on Broadway with the New York Rangers. He was then traded ahead of last season's deadline to the Colorado Avalanche.

As far as his NHL career goes, Vesey appeared in 626 regular seasons, spanning across nine seasons. He collected 101 goals and 194 points, hitting the 30-goal mark once. His new team in Switzerland has former NHLers Markus Granlund, Josh Jooris, Jesse Puljujarvi, and Marc-Antoine Pouliot.
