2 Interesting Trade Candidates Linked To Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings really need to do something to upgrade more this offseason as they can't afford to take a step back after coming close to sneaking into the playoffs. They have really only brought in John Gibson and James van Riemsdyk, which is not enough, not with $12 million in cap space to utilize.
The team can absolutely still get better and The Fourth Period has two interesting players linked to the Red Wings that would help them do that.
Rasmus Andersson
While someone like Erik Karlsson has a full no-move clause and will choose where he goes if the Pittsburgh Penguins trade him, Rasmus Andersson isn't in the same boat as it looks like the Calgary Flames are going to trade him and he can only choose six teams where he won't go. It doesn't look like the two sides are going to agree on an extension, so trading him at some point before the trade deadline makes the most sense, especially with Zayne Perekh coming in. The Red Wings could use Andersson in a big way on the right side with Justin Holl, Albert Johansson, and Jacob Bernard-Docker as the options after Moritz Seider. With Axel Sandin Pellikka eventually coming in, I'm not sure if an extension here makes a ton of sense, but something has to help the Red Wings on defense next season.
Evan Rodrigues
Unfortunately for teams thinking that they would be able to trade for Evan Rodrigues from the Florida Panthers before the season, Matthew Tkachuk's injury that should keep him out for the start of the season gives the team more time to make a decision or see what happens. The Red Wings may have to look to options like Rickard Rakell or Bryan Rust if they want to make a move at forward this offseason, but they could also wait and see when Rodrigues comes available and make a mid-season move when the Panthers might be more pressed to move him quickly.
