3 New York Islanders Trade Candidates in 2025-26
The New York Islanders are on the bubble this season. The Isles aren't expected to contend in the Eastern Conference, and there's a very good chance they could be on the outside looking in towards the trade deadline, which could result in some major changes.
Here's three Islanders to keep an eye on as trade candidates:
Semyon Varlamov
With Ilya Sorokin locked up long term and seven years younger, Semyon Varlamov is a prime trade candidate, and could actually become the best goaltender available this season. Varlamov has two years left on his deal at a respectable $2.75 million AAV, and holds a 16-team no-trade clause. The veteran netminder posted a 2.89 GAA in just 10 appearances last season, and he's currently working his way back into the Islanders' lineup. Don't expect to see him until November, but if he's locked in to start his season, other teams, like the Edmonton Oilers could come calling.
Bo Horvat
Horvat could quickly become the significant piece of a 'hockey' trade, as Islanders' management is going to be monitoring Horvat's success this season, and making a big decision on if he should be in their long term plans. Apparently a few teams reached out and kicked tires throughout the summer, so there's certainly be some conversations started already ahead of this season. Horvat, 30, is signed through the 2030-31 season at $8.5 million AAV, and owns a no-trade clause. Perhaps a move back to Vancouver?
Jean-Gabriel Pageau
The easiest target of the bunch and someone you'll see moved at some point this season, J.G Pageau is entering the final season of his contract. The two-way center loves to player a physical brand of hockey, and with his versatility and work ethic, is going to be on the radar of playoff teams this season who are going all in. Pageau is owed $5 million this year, and owns a 16-team no-trade clause. Regardless, don't expect to see him on Long Island after the trade deadline.
