Buffalo Sabres' development coach arrested for drunk driving, placed on leave
The Buffalo Sabres have placed player developmental coach Adam Mair on administrative leave after multiple reports surfaced stating the former NHLer had been arrested on a drunk driving charge, with three children in his vehicle.
The incident occurred over a week ago, and at this time, the Sabres haven't made any further comments. They've stated they are aware of the situation, have moved Mair to a leave of absence, and will continue to monitor the legal action.
According to WGRZ-TV Buffalo, the cited court records show Mair was arrested in Rochester, New York the first week of September after rear-ending another vehicle. Mair, 46, was charged with three felonies, and three misdemeanors, including aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle, and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the report, the deputy who arrived on scene could smell a strong odor of alcohol on Mair's breath, and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He'd go on to fail a field sobriety test and initially refused to take a chemical breath test after he was taken into the police station.
Mair was a bottom-six forward throughout his career, playing 11 seasons in the NHL, including seven years with the Sabres. He retired after the 2011-12 season, and was hired by the Sabres in 2015.
Buffalo is scheduled to open training camp next week.
