NHL News: Maple Leafs Bring Back James Reimer On PTO

James Reimer, Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that they have signed goaltender James Reimer to a professional tryout (PTO).

Reimer is a goaltender who the Maple Leafs know incredibly well, as they selected him with the 99th overall pick of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. From there, Reimer played each of his first six NHL seasons with the Maple Leafs from 2010-11 to 2015-16. In 207 games with the Maple Leafs over that span, he posted an 85-76-23 record, a .914 save percentage, and a 2.83 goals-against average.

The Maple Leafs signing Reimer to this PTO comes with Toronto goaltender Joseph Woll taking a leave of absence earlier this week. Now, by bringing in Reimer on this PTO, he will give the Maple Leafs more goaltending depth for the preseason at least.

Reimer split this past season between the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres. In 22 games on the year between the two clubs, he posted a 10-10-2 record, a .896 save percentage, a 3.04 goals-against average, and one shutout.

Reimer will now look to earn a contract for the season from the Maple Leafs after getting this PTO. In 525 games over his career, he has recorded a 225-187-65 record, a .910 save percentage, and a 2.89 goals-against average.
