Pittsburgh Penguins: Best Addition & Worst Subtraction Of 2025 NHL Offseason

Matt Grzelcyk, Pittsburgh Penguins

The NHL season is just about here, which is undoubtedly exciting news for hockey fans. Due to this, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be starting a series looking at each team's best addition and worst subtraction of the 2025 NHL off-season.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be looking at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Best Addition: Anthony Mantha

The Penguins brought in several new players this offseason, but forward Anthony Mantha is the most notable. The veteran forward has shown throughout his career that he can be a solid top-six forward, and he should have a big role on the Penguins' roster this season because of it. If he has a strong year, he also could be a valuable trade chip for Pittsburgh, as he is only signed for this season.

Worst Subtraction: Matt Grzelcyk

Matt Grzelcyk is certainly the Penguins' most notable subtraction from this offseason. The left-shot defenseman had a strong season during his lone year with the Penguins, setting new career highs with 39 assists and 40 points. He remains a free agent right now, but given the Penguins' crowded blueline, a return to Pittsburgh seems unlikely.
