NHL Rumors: Significant News Revealed On Anthony Stolarz & Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz reacts during 2025 game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have moved from securing depth to securing their starter.

Hours after signing Dennis Hildeby to a three-year extension, general manager Brad Treliving confirmed ongoing talks to re-sign Anthony Stolarz, a pending UFA who paired with Joseph Woll for one of the NHL’s most reliable tandems last season.

Treliving told reporters, including Pierre LeBrun, that Stolarz has been terrific and that the duo served as a backbone for Toronto’s season. With cap space in hand and stability in net finally within reach, Toronto is pushing to keep Stolarz from testing the open market.

Anthony Stolarz extension talks and ideal contract range

Stolarz delivered career best results in his first Maple Leafs season, posting a 21-8-3 record with a .926 save percentage and 2.14 goals-against average across 34 games. He earned the Game 1 playoff start before a concussion removed him from the second round, yet his regular season form and steady post-injury return make an extremely strong case for a multi-year commitment.

Recent tandem comparables in the 4 to 6 million dollar AAV band provide a market frame, but age and games played suggest a shorter horizon. A realistic sweet spot projects around three years at roughly 4.5 million AAV.

Dennis Hildeby contract sets the depth chart

Hildeby’s new three-year deal carries an average of 841,667 dollars, structured two-way for the first two seasons and one-way in 2027-28. He went 16-9-4 with a 2.55 GAA and .908 save percentage in the AHL last year, giving Toronto a credible call-up and easing workload concerns for the NHL tandem.

With Woll signed through 2027-28 and Hildeby locked in, a Stolarz extension would complete a rare three-deep plan that lets the Maple Leafs invest premium resources at skater positions without sacrificing performance in net.
