Report: Montreal Canadiens Trying to Add Top-Six Forward
The Montreal Canadiens took a giant step forward last season, and heading into 2025-26, general manager Kent Hughes is hopeful his team can make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and perhaps surprise some folks by winning a round or two.
The Canadiens have made some significant upgrades over the summer, especially on defence by adding Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders in a blockbuster draft-day deal. Turns out, the Canadiens are far from finished, as Hughes is looking to make another big splash before training camp opens in a couple of weeks.
Daily Faceoff's Marco D'Amico reported the Habs are in trade conversations, looking for top-six help, as they do lack some depth down the middle of the ice:
Marco D'Amico: The Canadiens will be active on the trade market again in-season if they can't secure a top-six piece before training camp; one source has hinted that the team has already sized up a few teams and will kick the can with them again down the line - RG (8/31)
The Canadiens have Carey Price's contract, which is much more appealing now after another one of the signing bonuses has been paid out. Montreal also has a slew of young talent and prospects to dangle, as well as future draft picks, despite giving up a boat load to acquire Dobson.
Keep an eye on Montreal, they are looking to contend as soon as possible, and they may just have one of the more dynamic young teams in the league this season.
