UFA Max Pacioretty Makes Huge Decision

Max Pacioretty

Max Pacioretty spent the offseason as an unrestricted free agent once again, receiving interest from a number of teams. But training camps are now fully underway across the NHL, and Pacioretty has apparently made an unexpected decision.

Per analyst and Leafs Morning Take host Nick Alberga, the 36-year-old has taken on another job outside the NHL and "appears to be hanging up his skates."

Pacioretty is now working with the University of Michigan, where he spent his lone college season back in 2007-08 before turning pro.

He spent last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs after going to camp a year ago on a PTO, then signing a standard contract of $873,000 for the season. He played only 37 games, recording just 13 points, but his impact was felt significantly on the ice, particularly by opponents. Patches handed out plenty of punishment, with 105 hits, many of them devastating.

In the playoffs, he made his presence felt as well, even on the scoresheet, with eight points in 11 games, along with 61 hits.

If this is really the end of his 17-year career, Pacioretty finishes with 335 goals and 346 assists for 681 points in 939 games. He added another 28 goals in 89 playoff games.
