2 New Teams Linked To Zacha + Potential Bruins' Trade Demand from Canucks

Pavel Zacha, Boston Bruins Center

Just when we thought Pavel Zacha's spot with the Boston Bruins was safe, two more teams have been floated as potentially interested parties in trying to convince the B's to trade the second-line center.

We heard from insider Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday that the Bruins really have no intention of trading Zacha, but yet rumors continue to persist that they are listening when calls come in. Check out what this NHL source told James Murphy of rg.org:

They’re definitely listening on Zacha, (Casey) Mittelstadt, and other players, but it’s more (about) knowing their options should they be out of the playoff race by American Thanksgiving or the New Year. The management staff and the coaching staff have let the players know that they still believe in them, so we will see where this goes.

As for the Canucks' interest, we've gotten confirmation on that from several sources, and it goes back to the summer.

“They’re getting calls daily on those guys and more so on Zacha,” the source told Murphy. “I know the Canucks really want him badly.”

What would Bruins ask for from the Canucks for Pavel Zacha?

So what would Boston want in return, if they ever caved and looked at dealing him to Vancouver? 6'3" defense prospect Victor Mancini has been named as a player of interest.

“I know the Bruins liked him in his days at Omaha-Nebraska,” the source told RG. “I’m not sure there is an appetite on the Vancouver side to move on from him so fast."

But there are two other teams that Murphy has unearthed that are interested in Zacha:

Calgary Flames were interested in Pavel Zacha during the offseason

According to Murphy, the Flames also asked about Zacha in the summer. But their brutal start to the season has most certainly put the kibosh on that interest for now. They may be trending more towards selling than buying at this point.

Edmonton Oilers a fit for Pavel Zacha?

Murphy's source also says Zacha would be a perfect fit on the third line in Edmonton.

“I really think Pavel would prosper in a 3C role like that,” the source said. “The Bruins and Oilers have already made two trades in the last year, so there’s some chemistry between [Stan] Bowman and Don [Sweeney] there.”

Indeed, the Oilers acquired Trent Frederic from Boston at last year's trade deadline, then signed him to a shocking eight-year extension in the summer. They also sent Viktor Arvidsson to the Bruins for a draft pick on July 1.
