3 Detroit Red Wings Trade Candidates This Season
The Detroit Red Wings are hopeful the team can take a giant step forward with their progression this season. Frustration is starting to mount in Motown, and it boiled over last season when captain Dylan Larkin called out GM Steve Yzerman after the trade deadline, due to the lack of movement from the long-time executive.
Heading into 2025-26, the Red Wings are once again expected to be a middle of the pack team, who could eventually become sellers ahead of the trade deadline. Here's three Red Wings to keep an eye on as trade candidates this season:
Justin Holl
The 33-year-old right-handed defenceman is entering the final season of what's turned out to be a horrible contract. Holl is owed $3.4 million this season against the cap, and last season, was scratched more than he played. Holl owns a 10-team no-trade clause, and if Yzerman wants to move the veteran blueliner, he'll likely have to retain some of Holl's cap hit, or add a sweetener.
Cam Talbot
With John Gibson arriving and Sebastian Cossa waiting in the wings, the 38-year-old Talbot is going to be on the radar of playoff bound teams looking for depth in net. Talbot posted 21 wins last season, and a .901 save percentage and is the kind of veteran teams are going to want to add for some insurance ahead of the postseason. Keep an eye on the Edmonton Oilers closer to the deadline, who could welcome a reunion with Talbot to finish out his career.
Patrick Kane
Kane surprised many by returning to the Red Wings this past offseason, and with the potential of the team struggling, he's going to be on the watch list for contending teams. Kane's wealth of experience and ability to be a game-breaker doesn't go unnoticed, and if he ends up being traded, keep an eye on Vegas, Toronto, Rangers, and Oilers.
