Chicago Blackhawks: Best Addition & Worst Subtraction Of 2025 NHL Offseason

Pat Maroon, Chicago Blackhawks

The NHL season is just about here, which is undoubtedly exciting news for hockey fans. Due to this, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be starting a series looking at each team's best addition and worst subtraction of the 2025 NHL off-season.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be taking a look at the Chicago Blackhawks.

Best Addition: Andre Burakovsky

The Blackhawks had a pretty quiet summer, but they did add to their depth. Burakovsky is the most notable player they brought in, as they acquired him from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for Joe Veleno. The 30-year-old winger is expected to be a solid part of the Blackhawks' top nine this season and provide them with some much-needed secondary offensive production.

Worst Subtraction: Pat Maroon

The Blackhawks did not necessarily lose any big-name players this summer, but one player who they could miss is Maroon. The 37-year-old forward retired following the 2024-25 campaign after 14 seasons in the NHL. His leadership and toughness made him a nice mentor for the Blackhawks' young players to have around.
