Big Blow For Mammoth, as Sean Durzi To Miss Significant Time

For the second straight season, Utah Mammoth defenseman Sean Durzi has gone down with an early-season injury and will miss significant time. The team has announced that he will miss four weeks with an upper-body injury.

Durzi suffered the injury in overtime Saturday night in the Mammoth's game against the Nasvhille Predators. He took a hit and fell on his right shoulder. He immediately dropped his stick, and went to the bench in obvious pain.

Ian Cole, a frequent partner of Durzi's on the blueline, said he'll be missed.

“Durzi is a huge part of our team. He's running our second power play unit, he’s an integral part of what we're trying to do here. So missing him is going to be, I would say, probably irreplaceable as a guy," said Cole.

For Durzi and the Mammoth, it's a familiar scene, as the key blueliner also injured his shoulder after playing just four games last season. He missed 52 games, and didn't return until February. In 30 games, he recorded four goals and seven assists for 11 points. He had over 20 minutes of ice time per night, and a plus-4 rating. He played the Mammoth's first two games this season and had one assist and four blocked shots.

In Durzi's first three NHL seasons, with the LA Kings and then the Mammoth's predecessor, the Arizona Coyotes, he regularly posted in the vicinity of 40 points, while blocking an average of 140 shots per year.

He will be missed on the Utah blueline... again.
