NHL Rumors: Could Flyers Dangle Two Specific Players In Trade Talks?

The Philadelphia Flyers trade rumors are real, and the need is obvious.

With Cam York and Rasmus Ristolainen opening the season on injured reserve and the third pair struggling, Elliotte Friedman reported the Philadelphia Flyers are checking the defense market. The club’s cap flexibility and a crowded depth chart could make a young blueliner expendable.

Philadelphia created fresh room by sending Ryan Ellis’ contract to the San Jose Sharks, and multiple reports peg the Flyers’ workable space around $6.6 million. That cushion positions general manager Daniel Brière to chase more than a depth stopgap if the right top-four option shakes loose.

Would Philly dangle Owen Tippett and Emil Andrae?

Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco floated a framework other teams would notice: forward Owen Tippett plus young defenseman Emil Andrae as headline pieces if the Flyers make a run at a true top-four upgrade.

The concept, framed as hypothetical, would reflect Philadelphia’s intention to spend new cap space on impact talent rather than a third-pair patch.

Targets and timing: Byram extended, Hughes a longshot

One name that fit the profile earlier in the summer, Bowen Byram, is now under a two-year deal with the Buffalo Sabres, which raises the acquisition cost and complicates near-term availability. Di Marco also mused about a bigger swing at Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes down the road, given his rapport with coach Rick Tocchet, though prying him loose would require a massive offer and patience.

Friedman cautioned that early-season deals are rare, but confirmed Philadelphia is in the mix and watching for the right moment to upgrade the top four.
