NHL Trade Rumors: Hurricanes To Go Big-Name Hunting Again
According to insider Pierre LeBrun, Carolina is prepared to go big-name hunting again after a run of headline pursuits, reinforcing their identity as one of the NHL’s most aggressive buyers. The organization believes in its deep lineup, yet remains willing to strike if a true star becomes available.

Hurricanes’ track record of big-name swings
LeBrun pointed to last season’s audacious trade for Mikko Rantanen, which Carolina later flipped to the Dallas Stars when an extension did not materialize.
The Hurricanes also made a push for Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs before the deadline and even checked on Kirill Kaprizov when the Minnesota Wild initially hit a snag in contract talks. Those conversations did not produce a deal, but they reveal a front office that constantly targets elite talent.

Why another splash is on the table
So many marquee pending UFAs re-upped early that the market’s star tier is thinner, yet Carolina’s cap position and win-now attitude keep the door open.
The front office will monitor for any contract impasse or surprise seller, while internal belief remains strong in Frederik Andersen’s ability to anchor the crease. If a difference-maker shakes loose, the Hurricanes have the flexibility and appetite to pounce once again.
