Insiders Update Latest on UFA Jack Roslovic, & Why He's Still Without a Job

Is Jack Roslovic planning on playing some hockey this season? That has yet to be answered, as the top remaining unsigned unrestricted free agent is still out there, skating on his own, without a job.

We brought you the news last month that he turned down an offer from the Edmonton Oilers earlier this offseason

Insiders Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun reported on the latest on Roslovic's situation on OverDrive on TSN 1050. LeBrun said the Oilers' offer "didn't interest him."

Coming off a career-high tying 22-goal season with the Carolina Hurricanes, Roslovic figured he was in for a nice contract when free agency hit on July 1. But when nothing materialized (and after turning down the Oilers' offer), Roslovic fired his agent.

"I'm sure he'll catch on here at some point," said LeBrun. "Because teams will break camp realizing a certain young player isn't ready, or they have an injury. He'll end up somewhere for sure."

Florida Panthers 'not a fit' for Roslovic, says insider

But fellow insider Dreger went one step further, wondering if the Florida Panthers could reach out, given their recent Aleksander Barkov injury news. But alas, Dreger has discovered that doesn't appear to be a fit, either.

"I kind of thought that maybe that would be a fit for the Florida Panthers. With all due respect to Roslovic, who has some history with Paul Maurice from Winnipeg, it just doesn't seem like he is a fit. And that's more because of style of play more than anything."

But there will be other injuries (perhaps the Maple Leafs' news today with Scott Laughton?), and Roslovic will likely wind up somewhere. He was tied to the Leafs in rumors earlier this offseason.

"Maybe he gets a little bit desperate, too," concluded Dreger, "and realizes that he doesn't have a job. And being in the league is certainly better than being out."

As reported by Aaron Portzline, the 28-year-old center/forward has been skating every other day at a suburban rink in Columbus, which is his hometown.

Hmm. Skating on your own in a suburban rink, or skating with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl? Dare we say that Roslovic made a huge mistake this offseason?
