NHL Trade Rumors: Teams Ready to 'Pounce' On 4 Calgary Flames 'Big Fish'

The Calgary Flames are off to a dreadful start to the season, currently riding a six-game losing streak and sit 1-6-0 overall, tied for dead last in the NHL. Coming off a surprisingly good 2024-25 campaign, the team will now have to consider a fire sale of some big names if this continues.

Insider David Pagnotta, speaking on the DFO Rundown on Wednesday, suggested four 'big fish' players in particular who rival teams will try to reel in.

(GM) Craig Conroy is going to have a decision to make here this year at some point this season if they can't get back on track. There are teams looking at this going... 'I'd love to be able to pounce to get player X, Y, or Z'...

There are a lot of guys on this team that other teams wouldn't mind getting their hands on. We obviously know about Rasmus Andersson, he's going to be moved at some point...

We've heard Nazam Kadri's name out there... Do we hear his name as the season progresses? Do we hear Blake Coleman? He's a guy that a lot of playoff bound teams would love to get their hands on, to have that kind of player on their roster... Mackenzie Weegar's name always seems to pop up...

Andersson, as Pagnotta notes, is the most certain to be dealt. He's on an expiring contract and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He's been linked to the Vegas Golden Knights over the past several months.

Kadri's name has been bandied around since last season, but still has four years to run on his deal, at a $7 million AAV. The Toronto Maple Leafs have been posited as an ideal landing spot for the aggressive, tenacious 35-year-old, even though his previous tenure with them ended badly. He is exactly what they need right now.

Coleman is a gritty, two-way player who can provide leadership and has a winning pedigree, with two Stanley Cup rings from his days with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has another year to go on his contract after this one, at a $4.9 million cap hit.

Weegar, 31, is a physical, two-way defenseman who can provide plenty of puck-moving skills and offensive production, while adding solid defensive play. Any team would have interest in Weegar, even with six years remaining on his deal at a reasonable (in the current cap environment) $6.25 million cap hit—provided they are able to make the cap room.

The Flames are definitely a team to watch on the trade front going forward.
