Ottawa Senators & San Jose Sharks place players on waivers Oct.14
The Ottawa Senators and San Jose Sharks have made some roster decisions, as both teams used the waiver wire on Tuesday.
The Senators waived defenceman Donovan Sebrango, meanwhile the Sharks waived forward Egor Afanasyev. If both players clear on Wednesday at 2:00pm, they'll be eligible to be assigned to the American Hockey League.
Sebrango made the Senators opening night roster, and played in two of the team's first three contests. He registered a -1 plus/minus rating in the team's opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and was held completely off the scoresheet on Saturday when he dressed against the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
Sebrango is an Ottawa native and has been used in spot duty throughout the last two seasons. Last season he averaged 12:46 of ice-time per game and saw action in four matchups. He re-signed with the team last month, agreeing to a one-year, two-way contract.
On the other hand, down in California, the Sharks waived Afanasyev, who had yet to appear in a game this season. The Sharks lost both of their opening outings in overtime to the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks.
The 24-year-old Afanasyev signed a one-year contract with the Sharks before the season started, worth $800,000 AAV. He spent last season in the KHL with CKSA Moscow, and prior to playing in Russia, spent three years with the Nashville Predators organization.
