Red Wings: Best Addition & Worst Subtraction Of 2025 NHL Offseason

Vladimir Tarasenko, Red Wings

The NHL season is just about here, which is undoubtedly exciting news for hockey fans. Due to this, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be starting a series looking at each team's best addition and worst subtraction of the 2025 NHL off-season.

In this latest edition of the series, let's focus on the Detroit Red Wings.

Best Addition: John Gibson

The Red Wings brought in multiple players this offseason, but Gibson is the most notable. The veteran goaltender is now expected to provide them with some much-needed help between the pipes as they look to snap their playoff drought in 2025-26. The 32-year-old goaltender is coming off a solid season for the Anaheim Ducks, posting an 11-11-2 record, a .911 save percentage, and a 2.77 goals-against average.

Worst Subtraction: Vladimir Tarasenko

Out of all the players the Red Wings moved on from this offseason, Tarasenko is the most notable. While the veteran winger struggled during his lone season with the Red Wings, he still gave them some offense, posting 11 goals and 33 points in 80 games. Given his strong resume, he could end up bouncing back with the Minnesota Wild this season.
