San Jose Sharks owner calls out Erik Karlsson

It's been a few years since Erik Karlsson was a San Jose Shark but apparently he's still living rent free in their owners head.

Sharks owner Hasso Plattner has been on quite the media blaze to start the season and Karlsson was his latest topic of discussion. He first spoke about Tomas Hertl wanting out, and then now, turned to Karlsson, who he called someone was isn't a team-friendly player.

"(Rebuilding) was actually my wish five years ago," Plattner said, per San Jose Hockey Now's Sheng Peng. "And quote, unquote, the previous (regime) said that's not there. EK65 was probably the last real try to keep the level of the Thorntons and Pavelskis.

"First, one (star) is not enough. Second, you know his qualities and you know his deficiencies; he was not the most, how do I say it, team-friendly player. He was good, but he was probably very good in a very good team."

Karlsson battled the injury bug in his time in San Jose, from ankle issues to knee concerns. He was only fully healthy with the team during the 2022-23 season, and potted 101 points and won the Norris Trophy. While his individual success was well documented, Karlsson had a monster season on a team that finished 29th in the league.

It's obvious Plattner is still quite bitter about how things turned out for Karlsson in San Jose, and we're sure it doesn't help that the team still has a portion of his salary on the payroll.
