Video: Frightening Head-First Crash Into Boards Lands Carson Soucy on IR

The New York Rangers have placed defenseman Carson Soucy on injured reserve after a frightening head-first crash into the boards in Saturday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins:

Somehow, Soucy was able to leave the ice on his own accord, but he didn't return to the game and the Rangers have now ruled Soucy out for at least a week.

It was a scary scene for a bit, after Soucy's awkward run-in with the boards while attempting a hit on Penguins forward Rickard Rakell in the second period.

The 31-year-old, 6'4" blueliner held his head in pain briefly on the ice, but skated off to the dressing room after consulting with a trainer. The Rangers won the game 6-1.

In three games this season, Soucy had one goal and a plus/minus rating of +2.

The eight-year veteran was acquired by New York in a trade deadline deal with the Vancouver Canucks last season. He posted three points and a +2 with the Rangers in 16 games to finish the '24-'25 campaign, with an average of 16:14 ice time per night.

Defenseman Connor Mackey was recalled from Hartford of the American Hockey League to take Soucy's spot on the roster.
