NHL Rumors: Could Maple Leafs Consider A Bobby McMann Trade?

Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Bobby McMann and John Tavares celebrate a goal during 2025 game.

Bobby McMann trade chatter could start picking up in Toronto after fresh speculation from Sportsnet’s James Mirtle

The Toronto Maple Leafs winger has struggled to match last season’s 20-goal pace, and with his contract coming due, the team must decide if he is part of their long-term core or a useful trade asset while his value remains intact.

In 16 games this season, the 29-year-old has recorded three goals and six points while posting 43 hits and 14:55 average time on ice. Last year, McMann scored 20 goals and 34 points, along with 136 hits and 14:30 average time on ice across 74 games.

Why McMann Is On The Radar

Mirtle noted that McMann has played real minutes with quality linemates this season and that a new deal could land in the three million range given recent market comps for 20-goal scorers.

If the Maple Leafs are not prepared to pay that price, moving him for a better roster fit makes sense. The on-ice picture has been mixed. McMann still flashes on zone entries and rush chances, but long stretches without production have raised questions about consistency and maybe even his confidence.

What A Trade Could Look Like And When

The Maple Leafs need cap flexibility and pieces that help now.

That points to a hockey trade that swaps McMann’s scoring upside for help in another area rather than a futures-only return. His size and willingness to engage physically were evident after he stepped in following a hit by hulking Nikita Zadorov on teammate Scott Laughton against the Boston Bruins

That edge, paired with last year’s production, gives him real appeal around the league. If the fit does not improve soon, Toronto could potentially look at options before the market tightens, depending on where they continue to land in the standings.
