Los Angeles Kings' Forward Names Trade Candidate
The Los Angeles Kings have to make a splash this season before Adrian Kempe gets a higher salary and Anze Kopitar retires. GM Ken Holland, despite his poor offseason, isn't sitting still and is looking to make the moves to give the Kings a chance.
Per The Fourth Period, "The Kings are looking to add extra firepower up front, especially within their top-6. If the Kings part ways with someone off the roster, left wing Trevor Moore may be a potential candidate."
Moore has been a solid middle-6 winger for the Kings, but has struggled this season to see the same success that he has had in the past. This is his sixth full season with the Kings, but his time with the team has been up and down. He had a career year in 2023-24, scoring 31 goals and 57 points, but dropped to 18 goals and 40 points last season. That is more where he is expected to be.
This season, Moore has three goals and four points in 13 games and is playing a minute or two less per game than he has in the past. His line is struggling and he has been taken off the power play completely, unlike in prior seasons. His cap hit is $4.2 million AAV for two more seasons after this one, so it isn't bad if he can produce 15-20 goals and around 40 points from the middle of the lineup.
There are going to be plenty of options out there, but the Kings might have to wait to add. They also must get themselves into position to warrant a decent-sized addition like the one being mentioned, or it could be a waste of assets. The Kings are in a tough spot. There aren't too many talented young players left to come in and make a difference and much of the core is older and slowing down or retiring.
