Pittsburgh Penguins' Evgeni Malkin Fined By NHL
The NHL has come down on Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin, fining the veteran forward the maximum $5,000 for slashing Winnipeg Jets defenceman Logan Stanley.
Stanley, who is a towering blueliner who loves to play physical, had cross-checked Malkin a couple of times in the back, and was battling with him behind the net, when Malkin had enough, snapped, and chopped Stanley with a stern slash.

Malkin received a slashing penalty on the play, meanwhile the Jets took care of business in the game, defeating the surging Penguins 5-2 in Winnipeg.
Malkin is no stranger to stick infractions, as he's constantly among the league leader when it comes to penalties with his stick. He's also turned back the clock in a major way, leading the league in assists, and among the league leaders in points. Not bad for a 39-year-old.
After 13 games, Malkin leads the Penguins with 18 points in 13 games, and a 8-3-2 record, good for second in the Metropolitan Division. It's been a very surprising start for the Pens, who were counted out in a major way before the year started.
