Predators Trade Rumors: Steven Stamkos Deal Linked to 2 Teams
The Nashville Predators are struggling to start the season, posting a 5-6-2 record to start the year, and have even been mocked recently on Saturday Night Live. It's been a rough start with limited offense, and one big storyline in Smashville so far this season has been the sluggish start of veteran forward Steven Stamkos.
Stamkos, 35, has scored just one goal and one assist in 13 games, averaging 17:30 of ice-time per game. It's Stamkos second season in Nashville, and while he didn't blow the doors off in his first year, the struggles this season are becoming quite worrisome. Trade rumors are starting to gain steam and there's been plenty of insiders talking about the potential of GM Barry Trotz approaching Stamkos about his no-movement clause. Stamkos has two seasons left on his contract at $8 million AAV.
Daily Faceoff's Jeff Marek recently touched on Stamkos' struggles and admitted he wonders if the Vancouver Canucks or Montreal Canadiens could pry Stamkos out of Nashville.
Jeff Marek: Re Steven Stamkos rumours: I could wonder about the Canucks, and I could wonder now that Patrik Laine is out, I could wonder about the Canadiens too; something probably has to give here - Sekeres & Price (11/1)
"I know (Stamkos) isn't playing with a travelling all-star team anymore, but Nashville is not a good fit...something probably has to give here"

Both the Canadiens and Canucks have been looking for a veteran top-six centre throughout the offseason and into the new year. Both teams have been linked to Pavel Zacha in Boston, but adding a player like Stamkos could have a much better return on investment.
It's not for a lack of trying as Stamkos is second on the Preds with 30 shots on net, so eventually, it certainly feels like they'll start go in. Stamkos scored 67 goals the last two seasons combined, so we'll have to monitor what his future might look like if the Preds continue to struggle into November.
