Maple Leafs Get Bad News On Brandon Carlo
After missing time since mid November, Carlo underwent foot surgery on December 3 and is expected to be out at least another month, according to head coach Craig Berube. That pushes his total absence closer to eight weeks, and it keeps Toronto in survival mode on the right side of the blue line.
Brandon Carlo foot surgery timeline and expected return
Carlo was hurt against the Los Angeles Kings on November 13 and has been out ever since. He averaged just over 20 minutes a night in his first 18 games, filling the shutdown role Toronto wanted when it acquired him from the Boston Bruins.
Craig Berube says Brandon Carlo recently had surgery and at the time of the surgery, Carlo was expected to miss a month.

Now the Maple Leafs will keep leaning on patchwork pairings and depth options while he recovers.
Maple Leafs injury pile: Tanev, Ekman Larsson, and the Stecher stopgap
Chris Tanev remains out with an upper body injury and is reportedly seeking a second opinion, which does not exactly scream “back soon.”
Oliver Ekman Larsson also left the overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks after an awkward fall, but early word is he may be able to practice before a call is made on his availability for the Edmonton Oilers game.
In the meantime, waiver claim Troy Stecher has helped steady things as a stopgap, giving Toronto respectable minutes while the regulars are sidelined.
