Breaking: Buffalo Sabres Fire GM Kevyn Adams, Name Replacement
The rumors had been out there for a few days. Now it is official. In the midst of another awful season, the Buffalo Sabres have fired GM Kevyn Adams.
And, also as expected, Jarmo Kekäläinen has been installed as the new general manager. And as Elliotte Friedman tells us, it is not an interim tag. Kekalainen is the new full-time GM.
A statement from Sabres owner Terry Pegula.

Owner Terry Pegula made the following statement:
"Jarmo has distinguished himself over the last eight months, and his experience, professionalism, and drive speaks for itself. I am looking forward to him leading our organization to the next level."
Kekäläinen was the GM in Columbus for 11 years, but was let go by the Blue Jackets in February 2024. He was hired as a Sabres senior adviser in May of this year, and from that day on, many saw this move coming, of handing him the GM's reigns in Buffalo.
Adams had been at the helm for five and a half seasons, but despite some very talented players on the roster, the team has been unable to find any success. Buffalo had a 178-196-42 record under Adams.
“We are not where we need to be as an organization, and we are moving forward with new leadership within our hockey operations department,” Pegula said. “We are dedicated to building an organization that is competitive year after year, and we have fallen short of that expectation.”
The Sabres are once again bringing up the rear in the Eastern Conference, tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets at the bottom with 32 points. They're undoubtedly on their way to their record 15th straight season missing the playoffs.
