Canucks Not Expected To Get Enough Interest In Veteran

Evander Kane, Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks are in last place in the league and are expected to be one of the first teams to start making trades. Some names have been thrown around, like Kiefer Sherwood and even Quinn Hughes, but there's one that insider David Pagnotta doesn't expect to be dealt this season.

He said, "I don't expect there to be much interest in Evander Kane, so I'm not anticipating a move there." This would be a player the Canucks would probably hope to move at he's in the last year of his deal. If Vancouver is headed towards a rebuild, they will be trying to get what they can for pending UFAs like Kane.

Kane has a modified no-trade list that has 16 teams to which he can be traded to. The 34-year-old's cap hit is $5.125 million AAV and he isn't doing horribly, considering the state in which the Canucks are this season. The veteran has five goals and 14 points in 27 games, but the team has been depleted since nearly puck drop on the season.

Kane is playing the type of game he normally plays, getting penalties and playing physically, but he just doesn't have the same skill around him that he had in Edmonton, so points are much harder to come by.

I would argue that the Canucks will get some interest in Kane from other teams, but if they aren't willing to meet the interested teams at a lower price, it's unlikely a trade will occur. The Canucks would also have to be looking to retain half of Kane's contract in a trade. If Vancouver can't get a trade done, it wouldn't surprise me if he is brought back on a two-year deal to fill a gap on the team.
