Mammoth Get Tough Injury Update on Logan Cooley

Utah Mammoth forward Logan Cooley lies on the ice in pain

It's been a tough week for the Utah Mammoth's leading goalscorer Logan Cooley. First, he suffered a scary-looking injury in a knee-on-knee collision back on November 29th, but somehow escaped relatively unscathed. He returned to the lineup for their next game on December 1st.

This past Friday night, however, he was involved in another collision, this time with Vancouver Canucks' goaltender Kevin Lankinen—and his goalpost. And now, the diagnosis is much worse, and Cooley will be out "indefinitely", per the Mammoth.

The incident occured early in the third period, when he crashed into the post as he went sliding into the crease, and his left leg bent in a way it's simply not intended to. That's the same leg/knee that took a blow from the knee of St. Louis Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko just 10 days ago.

Cooley, 21, one of the game's bright young stars, signed an eight-year, $80 million contract ($10M AAV) back in October. He was the 3rd overall selection in the 2022 NHL Draft by the franchise (then the Arizona Coyotes).

He has 23 points on 14 goals and 9 assists through 29 games, with a +6 rating.

A tough blow for Cooley and the Mammoth.
