Penguins Could Be Set To Flip Stuart Skinner

If some accounts around the league are correct, it feels like Stuart Skinner's stay in Pittsburgh could be a short one.

Skinner was acquired by the Penguins along with defenseman Brett Kulak from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Tristan Jarry. But that still leaves the Pens with four viable goaltenders in the system. Skinner, with an expiring $2.6 million cap hit, could be used by the Penguins to acquire another young asset. Insider Frank Seravalli explains, on the Panthers Insider podcast:

What about in net? You've got Arturs Silovs, (and) they're big believers in Sergey Murashov, who is a rising prospect. I think that makes Stuart Skinner another flippable asset here before the deadline if there's another team looking for a goalie and Skinner's game can rebound.

Skinner, 27, currently holds an .891 save percentage with a 2.83 goals against average. He was actually on a nice run before leaving Edmonton, allowing two or less goals in four of his last five games. But Skinner has fluctuated between some good runs and some bad ones throughout his career. He has struggled with inconsistency during his six years with his hometown Oilers.

Is there another team willing to take a chance that they can coax him into maintaining the elite play and, most importantly, confidence, that he's shown in spurts?

On the other hand, both Murashov and Silovs gave up 5 and 6 goals respectively in their most recent games, so maybe that will give the Penguins pause before acting too quickly on Skinner.
