St. Louis Blues Lose Both Snuggerud & Toropchenko For Extended Time

Jimmy Snuggerud, St. Louis Blues forward

In a double-dose of brutal injury news, the St. Louis Blues have lost both Jimmy Snuggerud and Alexei Toropchenko for some time, the team has announced.

Snuggerud, the 21-year-old rookie forward, will be undergoing wrist surgery and is out at least six weeks, while Toropchenko suffered the latest bizarre off-ice injury this NHL season.

For Snuggerud, the Blues' former first-round pick in 2022, it's a tough break, as he had earned himself a regular role, largely on the Blues' top line in his freshman season, with Robert Thomas and Jake Neighbours.

He started the season well, with four goals and seven points in the first 11 games, though has slowed down on the scoresheet since then, sitting with 11 points overall in 26 games. But as Jeremy Rutherford and Scott Wheeler write in The Athletic, he's still "been a noticeable presence on the ice," and helped create the game-winner in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Utah Mammoth with a drive to the net.

As for Toropchenko, he "suffered 'scalding' burns to his legs in a home accident," and is out week to week. The big Russian forward has appeared in 17 games as a fourth-liner, missing some games due to regular old-fashioned lower- and upper-body injuries, as well as being a healthy scratch a couple of times.

The Blues are not releasing any further information on his "scalding" incident. But other bizarre injuries this season include New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes suffering a 'freak accident' at a team dinner involving broken glass, and Florida Panthers forward Eetu Luostarinen is out week-to-week with burns from a barbequing mishap.

St. Louis recalled Aleksanteri Kaskimaki from AHL Springfield to make his NHL debut after the injuries were announced.
