3 Trade Destinations For Flames' Whitecloud

Zach Whitecloud, Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames ended up trading Rasmus Andersson to the Vegas Golden Knights, and in return, one of the pieces to make cap room was Zach Whitecloud, who could be flipped before the deadline.

Frank Seravalli said, "Teams have told the Flames that they'd be interested in Zach Whitecloud if he's available." There are certainly some teams in mind that make sense.

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have played some very good hockey lately and are in a good position to make it to the playoffs if they finish well too. They are looking to upgrade their right side and were reportedly the last team in on Andersson before the Flames traded him to Vegas. Whitecloud isn't on the same level, but he's still a right-shot defenseman that can play on the second pairing given more of a chance he didn't really get in Vegas. He is currently skating on the top pairing in Calgary, is stronger defensively than offensively, and has two years left on his contract after this season at $2.75 million AAV, good for a further retooling as Andrew Peeke is likely gone by the summer.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators aren't really in a good place to compete this season, especially with goaltending, but overall team defense needs to improve as well. It is seemingly Nick Jenson's last season with the Senators as he could be traded or leave in free agency, so a replacement will have to come in. Whitecloud wouldn't be overly expensive and has a little term to give the Senators a good look and time to figure more out. He could either fill in on the second or third pairing, depending on where Jordan Spence is utilized.

Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken are in the race for the playoffs and may be doing some more retooling on the fly as Jamie Oleksiak is a trade candidate. He is a UFA and in moving him, the Kraken can get the right amount of LD and RD in their lineup, plus save some money to use elsewhere. Whitecloud could be a strong 3RD behind Adam Larsson and Brandon Montour and be able to step up if there's an injury.
