3 Trade Destinations For Kraken's Shane Wright
The Seattle Kraken are looking to make some upgrades, and despite how Shane Wright has progressed well and come into the NHL to make a difference, they are looking for something better and more impactful right now.
According to David Pagnotta, "The Seattle Kraken are open to moving Shane Wright. They've been looking for a legitimate top-6 offensive threat, somebody capable of playing on the top line. And the sense that I'm getting is a willingness to move and package up Shane Wright in order to get that." He also mentioned that other teams are saying his name is out there.
Wright has been stuck in a third line role with Matty Beniers and Chandler Stephenson both having stronger seasons, and Wright was well on his way to being a top-6 player from his play last season. In about the same amount of ice time per game, Wright broke out with 19 goals and 44 points in 79 games. He sits at seven goals and 17 points in 49 games this season. Since he probably won't be able to move up in Seattle for a while, let's look at three destinations where he could be traded in a package that the Kraken are looking for.
Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks should be headed towards a rebuild, so that means someone like Elias Pettersson, who needs a change in scenery at this point, may as well be on the move like Quinn Hughes and Kiefer Sherwood were. Pettersson could easily be the top line center in Seattle, and it would shape up the lineup better with Beniers challenging him and also being a strong second line center with different and better matchups. Pettersson can absolutely score, but the Canucks have been very poor this season. He is a former 100-point scorer and to address the center ice position, Wright can jump into the top-6, which is what he deserves from his play last season.
New York Rangers
The New York Rangers, being at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, are going to seriously start looking at selling. There are a number of names out there, like Vincent Trocheck, Alexis Lafreniere, or Mika Zibanejad, who could suit the Kraken's needs for a top-6 forward. Zibanejad or Lafreniere would be the better options as they are better suited for the wing. Zibanejad would need to accept the trade, but Wright could also be a great new look that the Rangers are searching for and has the potential to exceed Lafreniere in New York.
Los Angeles Kings
While it may be tough to convince them, the Los Angeles Kings are falling and it is going to get increasingly difficult to stay a playoff contender when Anze Kopitar retires after the season and how Drew Doughty is declining. They have a few players they can go into the future with, but it isn't nearly enough with the weak secondary help and poor farm system. This is a team that really needs help down the middle, and Wright could be a second line center that plays behind Quinton Byfield. Then it is a bit easier to work things out down the middle after that. But in Seattle's interest, a Kevin Fiala would be someone they're looking for. He doesn't really get the top-6 time that he deserves because of the Kings spreading out scoring. He could be a perfect fit for the Kraken.
