Islanders Get Big Injury Update on Bo Horvat

NYI forward Bo Horvat hobbles off the ice

The New York Islanders' leading scorer is out once again. After spending 15 days out of the lineup in December, Bo Horvat returned for the last four games, but was injured again last night. He exited in the third period of Thursday's game against the Utah Mammoth. But the team is breathing a bit of a sigh of relief after the prognosis came in. It was not as bad as originally thought.

Horvat will be out for the next week, then after an evaluation, the hope is he'll be downgraded to day-to-day, reports Elliotte Friedman.

Islanders beat writer Stefan Rosner is reporting the same thing, saying this sounds like a similar, if not the same injury to the one Horvat just returned from. The timetable for that was one to three weeks. He ended up missing just over two weeks, and five games. The Isles went 2-2-1 in his absence.

This time around, Horvat hobbled off the ice after taking a seemingly innocuous bump from Mammoth defenseman Sean Durzi near the boards.

Horvat leads the Islanders with 21 goals and 33 points in 36 games, while logging an average of 20:30 in ice time per night.

The team is holding down a precarious edge for second place in the Metropolitan Division, just one point up on the Philadelphia Flyers (who have two games in hand) and the Washington Capitals.

The 30-year-old Horvat is in his fourth year with the Islanders, and has recorded 89 goals and 174 points in 228 games on Long Island.
