Minnesota Wild Rumors: Additional Moves On The Horizon
The Minnesota Wild are one of the top teams in the league, but have the misfortune of being in the same division with the two other top teams in the league. They will have the toughest path to the conference finals despite being a very good team. They aren't just building a team that can compete for a Stanley Cup this season, but at least next season as well.
The cost to acquire Quinn Hughes is paying off already, but more has to be done, particularly down the middle. The Wild aren't bad at center, but they aren't great either, and the team needs more depth scoring, especially if someone gets injured.
Frank Seravalli said, "I do think there are some additional moves on the horizon. The Wild absolutely need to improve down the middle. The market is incredibly thin. The Wild have their work cut out for them."
Minnesota has over $5 million in cap space. Whether they choose to/try to trade one of their players like Ryan Hartman or Marcus Foligno to free up more space and roster spot is still in question, but there needs to be a center brought in and another top-9 forward. The Wild are great throughout the lineup defensively and it's why they have one of the fewest goals against in the league, but goal-scoring can get even better from much of their lineup.
While the Wild could go for rentals, adding players with term is attractive too. Minnesota might start to become one of the more popular destinations for players, either with being left off no-trade lists or in free agency, and general manager Bill Guerin has shown he isn't afraid to make a splash to help this team win.
