6 Trade Destinations Named for Maple Leafs' Bobby McMann

The future of pending free agent Bobby McMann is up in the air at this point. It's thought that the Toronto Maple Leafs would like to re-sign him, and that he wants to stay, but for how much is still in question. In addition, what would they be able to land in a trade deadline deal for him? Can they get a first-round pick? If so, they'd have to seriously consider it.

If the two sides can't come to an agreement on an extension, and/or a trade offer is too good to pass up, let's run through (in alphabetical order) six trade destinations for McMann, as listed by Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet.

Detroit Red Wings

Finally breaking through this season and ready to make their way back into the playoffs for the first time in a decade, Steve Yzerman is sure to go out and get the Wings anything they need, after being notoriously quiet at past deadlines. A top-six forward is known to be one of his targets, but does McMann fit that description for Stevie Y?

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers have been linked to several potential Leafs' trade candidates, including Brandon Carlo and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (the latter highly unlikely to be going anywhere) on the blueline. The McMann rumors have been making the rounds for a couple of months now. The Oilers' focus at the deadline should certainly be on defense, but another potential top- or middle-six scoring option would be nice as well.

LA Kings

This one makes a ton of sense, as McMann would pick up the slack from the loss of the Kings' own 20-goal man, Kevin Fiala, who was knocked out for the rest of the season with an injury at the Olympics.

NY Islanders

As Dixon notes, GM Mathieu Darche is going to want to "reward a team that’s overachieved." He took a bit of a swing already by trading for Ondrej Palat from the division-rival Devils, but he won't provide the offense that the Isles are looking for. McMann should be able to.

Seattle Kraken

Scoreless in Seattle. That's a movie we've seen before. Anytime there's a goal scorer available, the offensively-challenged Kraken will be sniffing around. Seattle is 25th in the NHL in goals-per-game, at just 2.84.

Utah Mammoth

The Mammoth will be trying to make a big splash at the deadline, but failing that, adding a few productive pieces would be their next-best option, and a 20-goal scorer like McMann is an option. Dixon points out that the team has five second-round picks in the next two drafts, and while the Leafs would like to nab a first-rounder, many feel that going the multiple second-round-picks route is more reasonable, similar to the return that Kiefer Sherwood brought the Vancouver Canucks.
