NHL Trade Rumors: 4 Teams Who Could Trade For Goalie At Deadline
With Stuart Skinner being named officially on the latest Trade Board by insider Frank Seravalli, the subject turns to which teams might be interested in the Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender, or any other netminder who might be available by the trade deadline on March 6th.
Seravalli, on his Frankly Hockey show, posited four teams that could be in the market for an upgrade between the pipes between now and next Friday.
Montreal Canadiens
"Their situation has been unsettled all season long. Sam Montembault and Jakub Dobes haven't really stepped up and grabbed it." The Habs are 23rd in the NHL in goals against per game, at 3.21, and 25th in save percentage, at .887.
Ottawa Senators
The Sens are actually dead last in Sv% at .873, while sitting 24th in GAA at 3.23. "Their goaltending has been poor... Maybe if you put a guy in tandem with Linus Ullmark, which they've really struggled to have that second guy, maybe the Sens make sense" to go out and get another netminder.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Canes have stumbled into a jewel this season with Brandon Bussi, who has taken control of their crease with a 23-3-1 record, a .906 Sv% and a 2.16 GAA. They recently signed him to an extension. But after him, it's sketchy.
Pyotr Kochetkov is likely out for the season, and Frederik Andersen, at 36, is a major injury risk. And when he has played this season, it hasn't always been too pretty. He has a 7-10-5 mark (on a team that's 21 games over .500!), with an .871 Sv% and a 3.26 GAA.
Anaheim Ducks
With Lukas Dostal the main man in the crease, and only in Year 1 of a five-year deal, the Ducks are set for a starter. But for a backup, "they haven't gotten what they need from their second and third goalie," says Seravalli. The Ducks are 24th in the league in Sv% at .888 and 29th in GAA at 3.48.
