3 St. Louis Blues Not Expected Back Next Season
The St. Louis Blues tried to blow up their roster ahead of this season's trade deadline, and while a couple moves transpired, expect to see a full re-tool this upcoming offseason.
Alex Steen is expected to take over as GM and Steen will be tasked to re-shape the core of this team, after Doug Armstrong certainly got the ball rolling, moving on from captain Brayden Schenn and two-way defenceman Justin Faulk.
The Blues are loaded with young talent and high draft picks, and look for Steen to shop a few veterans, as the team continues to look for ways to refresh their roster, and expectations moving forward.
Here's three Blues who aren't expected back next season:
Jordan Binnington
Easy one first. Binnington will very likely be moved at the NHL Draft in a couple of months. There was plenty of trade talks ahead of the deadline this season, and frankly, it was surprising to see him remain a Blue. The Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, and Vegas Golden Knights all made trade offers, and look for these teams to circle back in a couple of months once the dust settles on 2025-26.
Robert Thomas
Thomas was almost moved to the Boston Bruins ahead of this season's deadline, and look for these two teams to revisit their trade talks this summer. The Bruins wouldn't budge on James Hagens or Fraser Minten, but do have several other high-end prospects who could get this deal done. If it isn't Boston, look out for the Washington Capitals, Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs to circle in on Thomas and land one of the better distributing centers in the league.
Colton Parayko
The Blues and Buffalo Sabres had a deal in place, but Parayko used his no-movement clause to remain in St. Louis. Blues' management was so pissed off about the trade getting leaked, they checked all computers and phones of their entire front office to see who leaked the trade, but came up with nothing, so it's obvious word got out in Buffalo. Parayko said 'no' to Buffalo, but he'll be provided with a few other options this summer, as the Blues will once again look to move on from the veteran defenceman.
