Maple Leafs listening to trade offers on multiple players
Brad Treliving has a 'For Sale' sign up around the Toronto Maple Leafs.
After what was one of their worst performances of the season against the rival Ottawa Senators Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena, it's been reported that Treliving has made it known throughout the league, mostly anyone on the team is available, for the right price.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently reported on what the Leafs were going to do, and had this to say:
There’s a lot of talk about the UFAs and what they could do, but the word around the Maple Leafs now is that they’re widening their scope of what they’d consider. Now I don’t think it is anything like Matthews or Nylander — I don’t think we’re talking about anything like that — but the word around them is that they’re widening their ideas of what they may consider. And they are talking a bit more about players with term.
In a perfect world, the Leafs move on Brandon Carlo, Max Domi, Nicolas Roy, and Matias Maccelli before Friday's trade deadline, and if they can find a suitor for Anthony Stolarz, they take it. Domi has struggled to find consistency all season long, and he's been given ample chance to succeed riding shotgun to Auston Matthews on the top line.
Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton are two of the Leafs best trade assets, but there's been multiple reports the team has been trying to re-sign both to long-term contracts.
Defenceman Morgan Rielly remains the biggest wildcard here. Rielly has lost a step, he's under contract through 2030, and at $7.5 million AAV and a full no-movement clause, Treliving's hands are tied. It would be a huge win for the organization if they could deal Rielly before Friday, and start a new chapter for both sides.
For now, talks have picked up in a major way after the team has started 0-3-0 out of the Olympic break. Expect to see some significant changes coming from the Maple Leafs before Friday's trade deadline.
