Nazem Kadri Has Already Invoked No-Trade List

Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri skates in pregame warmup

One of the top names on the market this week is Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri. The gritty, edgy two-way center is the ultimate playoff trade addition, given his Stanley Cup pedigree and feisty play. He is ready to move on to a contender, but he has some say in the matter.

His full no-move clause has reverted to a 13-team no-trade list this season, and word is he's already used it, according to insider Elliotte Friedman on NHL Network Radio:

The one thing I've heard about Kadri is, he has stuck to his list. He has 13 teams on his no-trade, and... I think there's some teams who have interest in him that he can't be traded to without his permission. And I heard he's been pretty steadfast in saying 'NO' to those situations.

So I think part of the reason you've seen nothing happen with Kadri is not because of lack of interest, but because he's (said), 'You know what, I've made a list', and so far he has stuck to it.

The Colorado Avalanche, the team Kadri helped lead to the Stanley Cup in 2022, are one of the obvious interested parties, and it's pretty certain they are not on his no-trade list. But there is one major obstacle that could hold that up

Kadri is 35, and has three years to run on his $7M cap hit.

There are other teams in the mix with interest for the seven-time 20-goal scorer, including the Avs' heated Central Division rivals, the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild, along with the Utah Mammoth, Carolina Hurricanes, Boston Bruins, and Montreal Canadiens. It's unknown which, if any of those teams, might have been turned away so far by Kadri.
