Morgan Frost Trade Buzz Building Around Calgary
The Calgary Flames made some huge strides this season towards their rebuild, not the least of which was moving out veteran center Nazem Kadri, sending him back to Colorado.
But of course, that move left them devoid of a real top-line center, and according to insider David Pagnotta, on the DFO Rundown, that's something they're looking to address this offseason... by sending out one of their remaining top six pivots.
What I'm hearing is, would they move Morgan Frost in a larger type deal in order to try and address the center position more long-term? In terms of bringing in someone a little bit younger, who could be there a little bit longer. So that's something I would keep tabs on.
Frost, about to turn 27, isn't exactly over the hill, but as a seven-year NHL veteran already, he might have reached the zenith of what he can do in the league. This season with Calgary, Frost notched a career-high 22 goals, with 43 points, in 15:30 average ice time per night, playing in the middle-six. He has one remaining on his contract at a $4.375 cap hit.
The Flames need to shoot higher for the top end of their lineup.
Pagnotta points out that the team's rebuild is currently "unfinished business" and says this offseason will be a big one for Calgary general manager Craig Conroy.
In addition to Kadri, the team also moved out top-four defensemen Rasmus Andersson and MacKenzie Weegar earlier this season. Blake Coleman was also on the trade block, and that will undoubtedly be revisited this summer as well.
The Flames finished the year with a 34-39-9 record for 77 points, tied for the third-worst mark in the NHL.
