One of St. Louis Blues Trade Candidates Looks 'More Likely Than Ever' To Be Dealt
The big names from the St. Louis Blues were all over the rumor mill at the trade deadline, from Colton Parayko (who declined a deal to Buffalo), to Robert Thomas to Jordan Kyrou to Justin Faulk (who did get dealt to Detroit).
But one name that had been talked about all the way back to last season is emerging as the odds-on favorite to be traded this summer, according to David Pagnotta on the DFO Rundown on Wednesday:
The one guy that looks more likely than ever to get moved this off-season is Jordan Binnington. They really like (goalie Joel) Hofer, Binner's got another year, final year, of his contract. There are going to be teams looking at goaltending this summer, and they will be talking to St. Louis about Jordan Binnington.
Pagnotta admits that it takes two to tango, then goes on to speculate on just where Binnington could land.
It could be Florida, depending on what happens with Bobrovsky, as he still wants a longer term deal... What happens in Carolina? They're doing well against Ottawa right now, but Freddie Andersen is a UFA... Edmonton—what happens with the Oilers? What happens with Pittsburgh?
Aside from Florida, a lot will depend on how those teams do in the playoffs before they make a decision on whether they need to go out and swing a trade for Binnington.
The 32-year-old has certainly shown his tendency to come up big in the big moments, with a Stanley Cup title on his resume, as well as his incredible performance in the 4 Nations last year for Canada. He isn't known as Big-Game Binner for nothing.
However, he is coming off a season with the Blues in which he posted a career-worst .873 save percentage and 3.33 goals against average. He has one year remaining on his deal at a $6 million cap hit.
