Penguins Making Big Lineup Move Ahead of Game 4

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Muse

The Pittsburgh Penguins' season is on the line, and head coach Dan Muse isn't sitting idly by. As they try to stave off a sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night, the Pens will be starting Arturs Silovs in goal, replacing Stuart Skinner.

Silovs' last playoff experience was two years back, when he was called on in an emergency situation in Vancouver, when starter Thatcher Demko went down. Silovs performed admirably in his 10 starts back then, and he'd like to start another run this time around.

Silovs replaces Skinner for Penguins for Game 4

The Latvian netminder started 38 games for the Pens this season, registering a 19-12-8 record, two shutouts, and an .887 save percentage and 3.07 goals against average.

Ironically, it's Skinner who was between the pipes the last time a team won three straight to tie a series in the Stanley Cup playoffs, as he put up three masterful performances to lead the Edmonton Oilers to get the Finals to a Game 7.

Skinner came to Pittsburgh in the mid-season trade with the Oilers for Tristan Jarry. Skinner posted a 12-9-5 record with the Penguins, with an .885 Sv% and 2.99 GAA. In the first three games of this series against the Flyers, he had an .873 SV% and 3.08 GAA, though played pretty well in the first two games.

The Penguins have a tough hill to climb, however, no matter who tends goal. Only four of the 209 teams who have been down 3-0 in an NHL playoff series have come back to win the series. And in only 10 of those 209 instances did a team even claw back to get it to a Game 7.
