Flyers Reveal Update on Owen Tippett Ahead of Game 2

Owen Tippett was among nine players skating for this morning's optional skate for the Philadelphia Flyers after being among the missing for Game 1. Now the Flyers have clarified that Tippett will be a no-go once again for Game 2.

Head coach Rick Tocchet says that Tippett remains an option to play Game 3 on Thursday.

The Flyers' forward was dealing with a nagging, unspecified injury late in their first-round series against Pittsburgh, but wasn't able to answer the bell for Game 1 of the Carolina series.

The 27-year-old was a key part of the Flyers' attack this season, tying a career high with 28 goals and 51 points in 81 games. But he managed just two points on one goal and one assist in the six-game set against the Penguins. He's being listed as day-to-day as he continues to struggle with the undisclosed injury.

It's a tough break for the Flyers, who were shut out in Game 1, 3-0, and will need all the offensive help they can get. Frederik Andersen has been unconscious through these playoffs in goal for Carolina, allowing just five goals total in five games, with a .961 save percentage, and a 0.90 goals against average. He's recorded two shutouts in those five games.

On the Canes' injury front, rookie defenseman Alexander Nikishin took pre-game warmup on Monday, after being out for Game 1, recovering from a concussion after taking a massive hit in Game 4 against Ottawa last week.
