NHL Rumors: 3 Free-Agent Destinations for Oilers' Connor Murphy

Connor Murphy, Oilers

Connor Murphy is a notable pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) heading into the offseason. If he ends up testing the free-agent market instead of re-signing with the Edmonton Oilers, there is no question that he will generate a lot of interest. This is because he is a big right-shot defenseman who can play top-four minutes if needed.

Due to this, let's look at three teams that could sign Murphy during the offseason if he tests the market.

Boston Bruins

It is no secret that one of the Bruins' top goals this offseason should be to improve the right side of their defense. They have yet to find a solid defensive defenseman to replace Brandon Carlo on the right side of their second pairing since trading him last season, so it would make sense if they targeted Murphy this summer.

Dallas Stars

One of the Stars' biggest needs this offseason is to bring in another right-shot defenseman. Thus, a stay-at-home defenseman with plenty of experience like Murphy could make a lot of sense for them to pursue. If they signed him, he could slot nicely on their second or third pairing and be a clear option for their penalty kill.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks could be another team to keep an eye on when it comes to Murphy. The Sharks are entering the summer with several pending UFA defensemen and should be on the hunt for defensive upgrades. Bringing in a steady blueliner like Murphy would make sense for them. This is especially so when noting that he would be a good mentor for their younger players to have around.
