3 Utah Mammoth Who Won't Be Back Next Season
The Utah Mammoth had a great run this season, but fell short to the Vegas Golden Knights in six games. There's a lot to love about this Mammoth team, as they're loaded with young talent, an aggressive owner, and a fan base that has quickly become loyal to their team.
Despite the success this season, there's going to be some roster changes in Utah. GM Bill Armstrong will be involved at the NHL Draft, looking for immediate talent to help his club next season. Expect to see Armstrong spend right to the cap as well, as ownership will certainly encourage the spending.
Here's three Mammoth who won't be back next season:
Alex Kerfoot
Kerfoot played his role as a bottom-six defensive forward this season pretty well, but unfortunately, his best ability isn't availability, as he's often injured. At 31 years old, Kerfoot is a pending free agent, and don't be surprised to see Armstrong look for someone with more size, and grit to replace him. Kerfoot only played 34 games in the regular season, chipping in with 13 points, and another one point in six Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Kailer Yamamoto
Again, Armstrong loves size and aggressiveness and Yamamoto doesn't bring either to the table. He's a pending unrestricted free agent, and because he still has a bit of untapped potential, and did put up 23 points in 59 games this season, including 13 goals, there's going to be one team who outbids the Mammoth once July 1 hits.
Vitek Vanecek
With Karel Vejmelka locked in through the 2030 season at just under $5 million, the Mammoth need to upgrade on Vanecek and get them someone who can push for starter minutes. There's several goaltenders available on the free-agent market, along with a few on the trade market this offseason, so don't be surprised to see Vejmelka have a new tandem partner next season.
