NHL Free Agency: Mason Marchment to the Pittsburgh Penguins?

Get ready to see Kyle Dubas try to reunite with Mason Marchment.

Dubas admits that over the course of his time in hockey, Marchment is the only player who got away from him, and now the Pittsburgh Penguins president has a chance to land Marchment in free agency. Expect to see the Penguins make a multi-year lucrative offer to the pending free-agent forward the first day they're able July 1. Dubas will likely replace Anthony Mantha with Marchment in the Penguins top six, even though Mantha had a monster season.

Marchment had an interesting 2025-26 season as he started with the Seattle Kraken, and was eventually dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In total, Marchment appeared in 68 games, scoring 19 goals, and 45 points. Pretty good numbers considering he was the 'new guy' on both teams, after a deal from the Dallas Stars leading into this season.

Kyle Dubas knows Marchment extremely well, and he’s a good player who, at 30, is only recently coming into his own. His 6-foot-5 frame is something the Penguins could use. He’s averaged better than 20 goals per season in the last three campaigns. This feels like a natural fit. — Josh Yohe

The Penguins are going to prioritize signing Marchment, as this is the perfect time for Dubas to right his previous wrong, and given Marchment's 31 years old now, perhaps Dubas should consider just a three-year deal to make it work for both sides. Dubas was recently a guest on Spittin' Chiclets, and opened up about the infamous Marchment deal from Toronto:

Marchment was making $4.5 million AAV on his last deal, and don't be surprised to see him get $5.5-6.5 from Dubas, with a full no-movement clause as well.
