4 Free-Agent Destinations for Anthony Mantha

Social Media Feature Preview
Anthony Mantha will be hitting the open market on July 1, as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Mantha's agent haven't been able to come to terms on a multi-year contract extension. Mantha signed a one-year prove yourself contract with the Penguins last summer, and proceeded to have a massive breakout campaign, unloading for 33 goals and 64 points, in 81 games. All while earning $2.5 million against the cap.

Despite the Penguins having a boatload of cap space, Kyle Dubas isn't thrilled to offer Mantha more than a two-year contract. Meanwhile, on the open market, the 31-year-old winger can likely land a five-year deal around $4-5 million AAV.

With a reunion in Pittsburgh very unlikely, Mantha hits the free-agent market July 1, and here's four teams to keep an eye on as potential destinations:

Philadelphia Flyers

Mantha's been linked to the Flyers by multiple insiders, as Daniel Briere is in the market for production from the left wing position. Mantha going from the Penguins to the rival Flyers would be quite the turn of events, especially with Dubas not being interested in offering a multi-year deal.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers are dealing with a Darnell Nurse trade request, but with Jack Roslovic, Kasperi Kapanen and Adam Henrique all not expected to return, Edmonton needs help on the wing. If Mantha doesn't sign a deal with the Oilers, look for them to turn to Bobby McMann instead.

Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres are likely losing Alex Tuch and will be looking to replace his production a few different ways. Mantha has the versatility to play either wing, but will Buffalo take the risk? Despite scoring 33 goals last season, as he hadn't scored 20 goals since 2024, which was the only time he had since 2019. Without a doubt, Mantha's a flight risk, but could be a gamble the Sabres are comfortable with if Tuch departs.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks have no choice but to spend money this offseason as they're nowhere near to salary floor. They've already made one trade and could see Mantha as a perfect second-line left winger for next season and beyond. The Sharks are certainly a destination team at this point considering how much potential their roster holds. Mantha could be in line to enjoy sunny California for the next four seasons.
