Former All-Star Goalie Alexandar Georgiev Attempting NHL Comeback
Alexandar Georgiev was an All-Star in 2023-24 with the Colorado Avalanche. But things turned ugly for him the following season as he posted a 15-26-4 record with an .875 save percentage with the Avs and the San Jose Sharks. He was out of the league entirely this past season, after being placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination by the Rochester Americans of the AHL. He spent the year in Russia.
Now, Georgiev has extracted himself from his KHL contract and is joining the free agent party for the NHL's July 1 frenzy.

Hockey News Hub reports that Georgiev's contract with Moscow Spartak has been terminated with one year left on the deal. He has been granted his release.
"The goal is to return to the NHL. Alexandar expressed the desire to try himself in the NHL again. There was such an agreement," said the netminder's agent, Stanislav Romanov.
Georgiev went 12-10-2 with a .918 Sv% and a 2.37 goals against average in the KHL this season.
He led the NHL in wins by a goalie for two consecutive years with the Colorado Avalanche, in 2022-23 (40 wins) and 2023-24 (38 wins). In eight NHL seasons, he has a career .903 Sv% and a 2.99 goals against average, with 15 shutouts. He began his career with five seasons with the New York Rangers.
He'll now join the likes of Stuart Skinner and potentially Sergei Bobrovsky and Frederik Andersen as notable UFAs on the market this summer, along with others in the next tier, like Laurent Brossoit, Cam Talbot and Connor Ingram.
